Under Section 16-25-20 of South Carolina’s Domestic Violence law it is unlawful to: (1) cause physical harm or injury to a person's own household member; or (2) offer or attempt to cause physical harm or injury to a person's own household member with apparent present ability under circumstances reasonably creating fear of imminent peril. It is important to know that South Carolina’s Domestic Violence law does not require evidence of any injury or harm beyond a minimal nonviolent touching, and that even an “offer or attempt to cause harm” can lead to a conviction. Therefore, if you are ever charged with committing an offense of Domestic Violence, the Torres Law Firm can help you resolve the matter and protect your rights.
